Welcome to the inaugural entry of The Moogle Report, aka the OOC Revenance Recap! I am Farli, player of Agent Carolina and Lin Beifong, and I will be your host for this post.
The Moogle Report is intended to help players old and new catch up with general game details and continuing plot shenanigans - these are things that might have missed due to recently joining, coming back from hiatus, or having simply forgotten over time due to the game's slow pacing. (It happens, don't worry, we've all been there.)
Assuming this works as intended and folks find this a handy thing to have, the recap will be posted once a month approximately one week after the official Week Change post.
This week, I'll be covering a few details about the Plot of Revenance, our existing worlds, what's going on in Equestria, and maybe some details on week changes iffin we got time.
How Did You Get Here?
Well, presumably you filled in an application and sent it to the mods! But as for your characters, they simply "woke up" one day and found themselves on the streets of Traverse Town, within a place known as the Realm of Sleep.
You can find the game premise here, and the IC section of the game's FAQ covers some basic questions to help you get started.
Bringing with them whatever they fell asleep with, your character has been given a little welcome pack of items from the resident moogles: some strange neon puzzle pieces, enough gold and blue spheres of the local currency (known as munny) to stay at the hotel for a few nights, and a communicator that will allow them to chat with anyone else stuck here. The moogles will show you how to put your puzzle pieces, called dream pieces, together in order to make your very first companion spirit.
(Just...don't shoot the moogles when you get here. They don't like that. And it ends badly for everyone else. Just. Don't do it. You'll thank me later.)
So, why are you here? Well, we just don't know. ...Well, technically someone knows. They're just not willing to throw any bones at us as clues. Rassumfrassum unhelpful npcs... But the why (and the how) of matters is what you're here to find out.
And, perhaps, someday you'll even find out who is responsible..
Game Time
The game's time runs on one IC Week to three RL weeks. There have been a handful of occasions where a specific Week has been extended OOCly to allow players time for shenanigans, but as a general rule, once three weeks have passed, a week change announcement should be expected. The Week Change posts will have mod notes, highlight any events players should be aware of, as well as announce any changes to the state of play.
At the time of writing, we are nearing the end of Week 18, which was extended to allow folks more time to catch up with game play due to holidays and exams in RL. The Dream has been active for at least six months - and it doesn't seem to be any closer to ending any time soon...
The Dream Worlds
Welcome to the Realm of Sleep. A state between the literal elements of Light and Darkness in the Kingdom Hearts universe, this realm lies closer to the Dark side and is home to the resident dream eater spirits and nightmares you'll get to know so well.
Within this realm are Worlds. Or, rather, the dream version of a World, often limited to a specific location. These are connected by magical portals, which respond to the traveller's will when crossing over.
Traverse Town was the first world available to roleplayers in Revenance when the game opened, and that total has since expanded to four: Traverse Town and Twilight Town (from Kingdom Hearts), the Mother of Invention (from Red vs Blue) and Ponyville (from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic). The lovely mod team have a handy summary of each on our official Worlds page, so make sure to go take a look, then come back.
No, go on, this can wait.
...Did you look? Yes? Okay, good.
Each World is believed to hold a clue as to why the characters are trapped in the Realm of Sleep. Once this has been discovered, a magic Keyhole will appear (yes really) and unlock the next World. The more worlds that they find, the more details will be brought to light about the situation. ...Maybe.
(Because there certainly couldn't be a more nefarious scheme involved here, now could there? :D)
The requirements to uncover the Keyhole are consistant only in that there is one - and while revealing it has been a little different on each occasion, a certain event seems remain the same: there's a Boss Fight at the end.
And if the World at large doesn't think the group is working fast enough for it's liking? Well.. It has a means of 'encouraging' you all, through the use of shared dreams. While no one person has the exact same dream, all are linked thematically and feature a shining Keyhole at the end. So far the dreams tend to begin somewhere around the third IC week of a new world's existance. There's no escaping these dreams that will occur each and every night, continuing to plague the populace until the Keyhole has been found.
CURRENT PLOT EVENTS
> Current Week: WEEK 18
> Current World: Ponyville, Equestria
The Elements of Harmony, a collection of magical artifacts, have gone missing, and the group at large have been charged with a new mission: "To find the missing parts, look inside your hearts." ...Some ponies are taking this a little more literally than the message probably intended, but maybe that's not a bad thing? Namine also recently provided an artist's interpretation of what folks are likely looking for to help.
Oh, and by the way? You're a pony. Unless you're not a human, in which case you may well be some other mythical creature that resides in Equestria! If you haven't done so already, we recommend that you learn how to use those new legs you've gained - and horns or wings, if you've been particularly lucky.
MEANWHILE, an ongoing investigation has recently turned up some interesting results.
During the past six months, strange items have been recovered after Incidents on the first three worlds: a Mystery Figure lured people down into the depths of the underground Post Office, there was a crazy Mansion puzzle in Twilight Town, and someone set us up the inevitable trap scenario on the Mother of Invention.
When the events ended, a strange keycard (held by Ziva David) was found in Traverse Town, a set of blank photographs (held by Sora) was recovered from the Twilight Town Mansion basement, and an unused AI datachip (held by Agent Washington) was collected from the training room aboard the spaceship. When held, the item would whisper in the mind of the item holder - too faint to be audible, and only heard by the person in physical contact with it.
After much delay, it was decided to bring these together to find out what would happen. Though events appear to have ended anticlimatically, it does seem like someone on the outside is trying to lend everyone aid... But who? And why?
And that's it for this week's recap! Next time, we'll have a recap on those loveable dream eater critters, and provide an update on any new plot developments with the latest week change.
Got a suggestion for something you'd like to see included here on a regular basis? Can you think of ways to make this better, or have you questions for your fellow players? Comment here, feedback is welcome and wanted!
